About Me

I come from a family with a history of various illnesses.  I had three grandparents who died of heart attacks, and one that died of cancer.  My beloved mother, whom I will forever miss dearly died in 2001 from cancer.  My father has also had a single bypass and my brother has a heart murmur.  These are all things I cannot change, but what I can change is my future.  So 4 years ago I made a decision to empty out my fridge, go through my cupboards, and change my grocery list.  It was time to get rid of the things that would hurt me in the future.  It was time to make some changes before it was too late.

Since that day 4 years ago I’ve read books, I’ve scoured the internet, and I’ve spent many hours talking to my doctor, friends and family.  I am not an expert.  Everything I know I have learned through the previously mentioned sources, but I’m amazed at the way I used to live (and a little disgusted too).

I’m not saying I’ve perfected anything after 4 years.  On occasion I still have a drink too many.  There are nights in which neither my wife or I feel like cooking and we give in to the “fast food” temptation.  I also can’t tell you how many times I thought about working out but decided 15 stairs was too far a distance to go to my gym equipment.  Even my dog will testify that I’ve opted to let him run around the backyard a lot more than I’ve opted to walk him around the block.  I will tell you this though, even with the occasional weakness I have changed things quite drastically over the past 4 years.  My diet is great and I feel 10 times better today than I did back then.  I think it’s safe to say that I feel younger now than I did back then.

It’s important to realize that we all have our good days and bad days.  Don’t punish yourself, I’m not.
